Associate

Russell is associate in the employment team, and advisor at forburyTECH, a tech start-up support by Clarkslegal.

He regularly advises employer clients on grievance, disciplinary and dismissal matters, TUPE-related issues, restructure and the negotiation that goes with this, as well as assisting with settlement agreements, flexible working, off-payroll working and data protection. He is experienced in industrial relations and negotiations and drafting trade union collective agreements.

Russell provides clear and cost-effective advice for his clients and has achieved successful outcomes with numerous large-scale litigation matters in the employment tribunal and civil courts.

Russell has supported the CBI on its response to COVID-19 matters. He is also member of the UK delegation to the International Labour Organisation: representing UK business interests on cross-jurisdiction employment matters, international labour standards and supply chain governance.

Experience 

Discrimination and harassment

Russell regularly supports clients in discrimination from the recruitment process right through to termination covering harassment, age and disability discrimination, reasonable adjustments and stress/depression related conditions.

Employee engagement and industrial relations

Russell advises public and private sector employers on employee relations, including engagement mechanisms, pay negotiations, trade union recognition and industrial action. He has acted successfully in relation to applications for injunctions to prevent strike action.

Equal Pay

Russell is experienced in achieving successful outcomes for clients in very large-scale litigation in the Employment Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court and in negotiations to achieve favourable and cost-effective outcomes for clients.

Senior Executives

Russell offers support on exit packages and restrictive covenants. He has successfully acted for senior executives with high value claims in the Employment Tribunal and High Court.

Settlement Agreements

Russell has extensive experience in advising both companies and individuals on the terms and effect of settlement agreements, and in negotiating to obtain more beneficial settlement terms for clients.

I regularly advise on discrimination issues including discrimination on the grounds of sex, race, disability and age. This can involve identifying potential risks for a company at an early stage and advising on ways for the company to minimise these risks or providing advice and support to companies or individuals if claims arise.
