Small Businesses Exempt from Right to Request Time to Train

The right for employees to request time off from work to undertake study or training was introduced in April of this year to those employers with 250 or more employees. This right is due to be extended from April 2011 to all employees.
Although it was recently reported by the Business Minister, Mark Prisk that this right will not apply to companies with less than 50 employees, he has since confirmed that this statement was ‘premature`.
All employers should therefore assume that this right will apply to them from April 2011 subject to any further announcements.
