New GDPR Special Category Data Guidance Published

15 November 2019 #Data Protection

There are some types of special category data under the GDPR that attract a higher level of protection given their sensitive nature. This is referred to as ‘special category’ data and includes information such as health details, information revealing racial or ethnic origin, information revealing political opinions, information revealing religious or philosophical beliefs and biometric data.

The ICO has published updated detailed guidance relating to this type of data which is helpful for data controllers to ensure they understand their obligations. This guidance can be found here.
