Maximum Employment Tribunal deposit to increase from £500 to £1000

10 February 2012 #Employment

If an employment judge considers that all or part of a claim (or response) has little reasonable prospect of success, the judge can order the party in question, under the Employment Tribunal Rules, to pay a deposit of up to £500 as a condition of being permitted to take further part in the proceedings.

However, under the Employment Tribunals (Increase of Maximum Deposit) Order 2012, which comes into force on 15 February 2012 , the government will have the power to increase the maximum employment tribunal deposit order from £500 to £1,000.

According to Ed Davey, the Minister for Employment Relations, Consumer and Postal Affairs, the increase will take effect from 6 April 2012, subject to Parliamentary approval.
