If "pulling a sickie" was an Olympic sport, the GB team would sweep up the medals!

15 July 2010 #Employment

A survey for Aon Consulting has revealed that one in five UK workers feigned an illness the last time they took a day off work sick.

The UK was the worst performer in the survey compared to the rest of Europe!

The survey found that Danes were the least likely to feign illness to get time off work - 4% said admitted to "pulling a sickie" that last time they were off, compared to 21% of those in the UK.

An Aon representative said: "Employers would be well advised to tackle the issues of sickness and workplace absence head-on, as these seriously impact efficiency and hit their balance sheets."

Employment buddy has extensive guidance material and template documents to help employers manage sickness absence. Training managers on sickness absence procedures, particularly how "Fit Notes" and return to work interviews should be handled is key. Clarkslegal offers practical workshops for HR and line managers on managing long-term and short-term sickness absence. Please contact us for further information.
