Health and safety - gone mad or just gone?

28 September 2010 #Employment

Is Lord Young going to blitz Health and Safety Legislation?  As we reported a month or so ago, Lord Young has been reviewing health and safety regulations to determine whether they are too onerous.

It appears that his report has been leaked and according to the Daily Telegraph, Lord Young will make 40 recommendations for changes to health and safety rules. The report will apparently recommend that emergency service workers, such as police and ambulance staff, should be exempt from being sued for reaching health and safety rules when they risk their own safety to help others.

The report is likely to be launched at the Conservative party onference next month, and it will be interesting to see how far Lord Young can go towards removing the so called compensation culture whilst still ensuring people are protected from deaths and serious injuries in the workplace.
