Flexible Working Legislation Extended To Parents of Children Aged Under 18
07 January 2011
The right to request flexible working currently applies to parents of children aged under 17, parents of disabled children aged under 18 and carers of dependant adults. This right is to be extended to parents of all children aged under 18 and will come into force on 6 April 2011.
Eligible employees have the right to request different working conditions by changing the number of hours or times that they work or their place of work. An employer can only refuse an application on one or more specified business grounds.
Employers should therefore ensure that relevant policies are updated and amended to reflect the change and to bear in mind what other polices or procedures could be affected by this change.
