13 January 2012 #Employment
Statistics from the Ministry of Justice reveal that the number of employment tribunal claims have decreased by 30% in the period from 1 July to 30 September 2011 compared with the same period in 2010.
This figure accounts for both multi party and single party claims. Multi party claims have fallen by 41% but single party claims have only fallen slightly by 1%. The Ministry of Justice has commented that the significant fall in multi party claims was due to the influx of the airline employee claims for holiday pay and wages in 2010.
From 1 July to September 2011, there were 26,700 disposals made by the employment tribunals, which represents a 16% decrease compared to the same period in 2010.
It will be a relief to employers to see that the number of tribunal claims being submitted is slowing down after a year on year surge. Further statistics released this year will help to confirm whether the trend will continue.
