A Reflection on Pride Month: A quarter of LGBT staff believed to be hiding their sexual orientation or gender identity

Last month, consultancy firm Accenture published its Visible growth; visible fears report which surveyed roughly 30,000 employees and 1,700 senior managers around the globe.

According to the report, 31% of LGBT employees reported that they are completely open with their employers or colleagues about their sexual orientation and gender identity. 57% of LGBT staff felt that their gender identity or sexual orientation had negatively impacted their career, by slowing progression at work and only 14% felt supported in the workplace.   These statistics are a stark contrast to the 68% of managers who reported that they believe they create an inclusive and empowering environment for LGBT staff.
