Kate Walsh

Position: Senior Solicitor
Location: Reading

Having had the opportunity to get involved in both challenging and high quality work at Clarkslegal, my role here has certainly exceeded my expectations.

What was your journey into your current role with Clarkslegal?

A Cardiff girl through and through, I studied for both my law degree and LPC at Cardiff University. I then trained with a Cardiff law firm. Even at the start of my training contract I knew I wanted to practise in employment law but unfortunately, newly qualified employment roles were very few and far between! On qualification I had a brief spell in litigation but fortunately, an opportunity with Clarkslegal came up and I made the move into employment law. Having had the opportunity to get involved in both challenging and high quality work at Clarkslegal, my role here has certainly exceeded my expectations.

Tell us about a typical day in the office

I am managing a number of tribunal claims at the moment so I usually start the day with a to-do list. A typical day will include drafting pleadings, preparing for hearings and updating the client. Employment law is obviously a very dynamic area of law so I also keep an eye on the legal updates that come through and help draft updates for our Employment Buddy blog.

The joy of handling tribunal claims is that they keep you on your toes so fortunately, there is no “typical” day in the office.

How has Clarkslegal supported you in reaching your career goals?

Within several weeks of starting with Clarkslegal I delivered a training session to a potential client and advocated at a hearing. Clarkslegal encourages staff to push themselves whilst offering a network of support. The experience that I have gained here as a newly qualified solicitor and in such a short period of time is unparalleled.

What is the highlight of your career here so far/favourite project?

Getting a claim struck out on a technical early conciliation issue which was yet to be tested by the Tribunal.

What do you enjoy the most about working at Clarkslegal?

Without a doubt - the people. There is a real sense of being part of a team at Clarkslegal and everyone is willing to support each other so you never feel out of your depth. Working in a multi disciplinary practice and alongside  Forbury People, Forbury Investment and the Commonwealth Environmental Investment Platform really makes it an exciting place to work as someone always has some interesting news to share.

Describe your experience with Clarkslegal using 3 adjectives.

Enjoyable, fast paced and rewarding.
